Job Hunting Strategy: Resume AND LinkedIn Profile

It is important to have a great resume that differentiates you from others, it is just as important to optimize your LinkedIn Profile.

LinkedIn has just passed 175 million registered users.  It is widely recognized to be the most successful business-oriented social media networking site in the world.  85% of employers will check you out on LinkedIn before they call you for an interview.

There are differences in the resume and LinkeIn Profile.  Your LinkedIn profile is an overview of your professional skills, talents and abilities, while your resume demonstrates your value to a company for a specific position.

Your resume and LinkedIn Profile should not be one in the same.  They need to complement each other.

Target your resume and focus it to a particular position, using specific keywords from the job posting.  Additionally, throughout your resume show specific achievements that can show what value you’ve brought to your past employers.

Make your LinkedIn profile more general, identifying your strengths that are applicable to your profession or industry. It can also be less formal than the resume and show some of your personality.

The key to remember is:  Resume AND LinkinIn Profile.  These tools work hand in hand, and if used correctly, can assist you in finding that next position.
