Keys to Keeping Your Online Resume Exclusive and Effective

Do you currently have a great resume that you are in the process of figuring out where and when to send?  Everyone has different advice and opinions of how to play the resume game.  Recruiting experts, career coaches and hiring managers say that less is more when it comes to sending out your resume, despite the host of services that will shotgun your information across the internet.

The spray and pray approach generally yields dismal results.  Also, the more resumes that you have out there circulating, the harder it is to update them or to keep any one version from showing up in the wrong places.

When you are trying to get noticed, here are some tips on how to approach the process and gain the results you desire in your job search:

  • Take aim and get specific about where you will send your resume.
  • Keep track of where you are sending your resume and follow up in a timely manner.
  • Update your resume often.  It is a working document that is really never complete, but always revolving to fit your needs.

Get out there and network.  Many of the people who come to my office, say they have been looking for a job for a long time by sending out resumes.  That tactic will not work by itself.  Begin building relationships that will assist you in the job search and well after you’ve landed that desired position.
